The parents of Lucía Pérez, the 16-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Mar del Plata, expressed their frustration over the ruling of the Criminal Cassation Court, which determined that there is no criminal responsibility in their daughter's death. Guillermo Pérez stated that he considered the decision to be so cruel and confirmed that they will appeal the court's ruling, which dismissed the crime as femicide.
"I find it so cruel," expressed Lucía’s father in statements to local media. "We already know what Cassation said, so we will appeal," he added. Pérez and his wife, Marta Montero, have been fighting for nine years in search of justice for their daughter. They criticized the performance of the judges and are preparing to continue with the appeal.
The judicial resolution questioned the existence of eventual intent in Lucía's murder and expressed doubts about aggravated sexual abuse. The judges mentioned that the arguments of Court No. 2 lack broad support in national and international legal doctrine. The decision indicates that the teenager died due to a combination of factors, such as physical effort from the sexual abuse and cocaine use.
For their part, Lucía's parents believe that this resolution aligns with the government's recent proposal to remove the concept of femicide from the Penal Code. Despite the difficulties, they are determined to continue fighting for their daughter’s memory.
